I personally use GoDaddy for all my domain purchases.  They have great prices and offer lots of discounts to their customers!

Do your research.  You want a price point you can afford and the support you need if there are any issues.

I use HostGator for this blog and I find the support documentation very user-friendly and I have only had to contact them a couple of times.   Join HostGator by clicking this on this image.

Bluehost I have used in the past and I found them to be comparable to HostGator.

GoDaddy hosting I use for my son’s website or if I am trying out a new concept.

All my templates I use have come from Theme Forest from Envato Market.  I have used some free templates and when I get serious I prefer to purchase a template.  This blog template is from SoloPine it is called Rosemary.  When I look for a template, I want it to have all the features I will need.  I also want to make sure the font and colors are to my liking.  I know they can be changed, but that takes time and I would rather spend my time elsewhere.
